CS MSc Thesis Presentation 10 April 2026
One Computer Science MSc thesis to be presented on 10 April
Friday, 10 April there will be a master thesis presentation in Computer Science at Lund University, Faculty of Engineering.
The presentation will take place in E:2405 (Glasburen).
Note to potential opponents: Register as an opponent to the presentation of your choice by sending an email to the examiner for that presentation (firstname [dot] lastname [at] cs [dot] lth [dot] se). Do not forget to specify the presentation you register for! Note that the number of opponents may be limited (often to two), so you might be forced to choose another presentation if you register too late. Registrations are individual, just as the oppositions are! More instructions for opponents are found here on the LTH thesis project page.

- Title: Retrieval-Augmented Generation for Educational Exploration
- Examiner: Pierre Nugues
- Supervisor: Peng Kuang (LTH)
This thesis designs and empirically evaluates a production-oriented Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architecture for an educational exploration LLM in Skoolie, a Swedish platform used in schools. The baseline system generates answers without access to structured programme data, leading to ungrounded and incomplete responses. The redesigned architecture retrieves structured records from a higher-education catalogue and injects them into the prompt using schema-aware context packaging and a dedicated second-stage reranker. Retrieval strategies are compared under strict latency constraints reflecting the deployed user interface. Evaluation combines automated grounding metrics together with a human survey of perceived helpfulness and correctness. Results demonstrate that retrieval-conditioned generation substantially improves grounding and user-perceived answer quality while remaining within the system’s end-to-end latency budget.
